1. Shot a quick video playing around with more NFC tagging, this time linking our wedding day photo, in Copenhagen, to Google Streetview of the actual corner that it was photographed.

  2. Name Plate 2.0 (for the multi-location worker) Update: It may help to explain - I work in two different campuses and I often asked what campus I’ll be working from. So while I am working on a physical device with the some of the crew at Milwaukee Makerspace. I dropped an NFC tag behind my nameplate and programmed it to link to my Google Latitude account. Tap my nameplate with your NFC enabled phone and you are instantly show where I am at that point in time.
UPDATE: Posted a short YouTube video showing how it works: http://youtu.be/buy-H9ee-Rs

  4. Imagine the cities noise, CO, traffic and temperature data gathered if the Copenhagen Wheel was outfitted on every Alta bike in NYC’s bike share program
Putting these hubs on personal bikes although attractive to people like me, would open the inbound flow of urban data immediately if efforts were to combine with a community bike share program. Slightly modifying their current model by creating a quick pairing feature - from wheel hub to mobile device - allows the user to still retain their data, but also not be tethered to an individual bike.

  5. Love to see Philip Rosedale’s tech share coffee concept (jump to 36th minute) pop up all over the US.

Combining meetups like MakeryNight Owls, & StdyHll with foursquare check-ins could be a great start; Check-in with your specialty/profession in shouts - maybe a great way to see who’s there/does what and be able to engage them in the things you are working on and share insight.

Is there a foursquare widget/app that would allow people to see who else is in a location for displaying on a large screen at the venue? I’ve seen them with twitter. I could see this app being used all over the place: College Tutor Labs, Speed Dating (lol)…

  6. Square Groups - An idea about how this could be done:
In my last post, I talked about an opportunity for Square to expand their current offering allowing us to switch our profiles and take money for charity, a high school fundraiser, etc. Above is only an option (mock-up above) on how I think they could do it:
It would be an option under “Accounts” that allows you to add a group/charity to take payments on behalf of. This would be by an “Add a Group” field which would prompt you to either search for a group, or to type in a a group/charity’s PIN ID. Type in the PIN and this would pair the device the that particular account/org.
Once the pairing is complete you have the option to switch between profiles to allow you to be able to switch over to your Group/Charity account to start taking donations at a Meetup, or anywhere.

  7. Re-Birth of Study Hall

Since my mobile application, The Smart Alarm, released, I have found myself in more coffee and happy hour meetings with some very smart, and interesting people. Most of these people had ideas, mind blowing ideas that needed some legs. I found that there was about 3 pieces to getting these things going. They all represented 1, or 2, of the below, but not all 3 in order to complete a vision:

    1. There is the person with the concept, or idea

    2. The Designer (UI, UX and/or Graphic Designer)

    3. And the Software Programmer

I’ve been speaking to enough groups, and key people, in Milwaukee now that I feel this is more than doable - its sought after. Coming soon I am looking to re-introduce people to the Study Hall (@StdyHll) - for adults. A technical study hall that would allow people to get together to cross pollinate fresh ideas and to promote creativity, allowing all the pieces to get together to actually make things. A creative incubator.

I am current going down the process of creating this environment to get these groups together in one place, to cultivate these ideas into something that they can turn around and actually make. This would be a location where people can meet, on a regular basis, to share ideas of what they are working on, or offer their services to others projects that they can get behind. We’ll be adding a website and some directories for getting in touch with the right people to help you make something for yourself.

In the mean time, feel free to reach out to me with ideas or ways that you wish to help get this off the ground, at: mike [at] michaelmassie [dot] com

I look forward to your feedback. Thank you very much!

    - Mike

The Smart Alarm 2.0
I am very excited to actually start getting some work done on version 2.0 of the Smart Alarm, the app that started it all for me. Nik is out of school for the summer and we’re hoping to get the app ready for OS 4 (allowing it to run in the background), a little UI refresh, and some other enhancements yet to be disclosed.
You can also show your support, or appreciation, of the app by sporting this as your iPad/iPhone Lock-out Screen: Download on Flickr.

You can follow the progress here

Thanks everyone for your continued support.
